In this week’s episode of The Girlfriend Doctor, I had a conversation with the delightful Dr. Doni Wilson. Dr. Doni is a naturopathic doctor, professional midwife, clinical nutritionist, bestselling author, researcher, and much more. Today, she is here to talk to us about stress, the detrimental effects it can have in our lives, and how we can prevent and heal from it.
Dr. Doni discusses her personal experiences with stress and how they transpired throughout her career and writing her book, how 90% of doctor visits are due to stress, the importance of optimizing our adrenal glands and cortisol, and more. We also speak about the different kinds of testing used to measure cortisol in the body and supplements to manage the nervous system adequately. We may think that stress is something that is temporary and will have no significant toll on our bodies but that is far from wrong.
Dr. Doni makes it immensely evident that stress can have severe repercussions on our immune system which then transpires into detrimental psychological issues. Tune in to find out more on this important topic. And if you’re hungry for more information, be sure to pick up her book, Master Your Stress, Reset Your Health (2022), available anywhere books are sold!

HOW TO CONNECT WITH OUR GUEST
“Part of my naturopathic training was about cortisol and adrenal glands, which make cortisol. And so I had to learn about this.”’
“But it wasn’t until I really experienced it for myself that I said, ‘Oh, that’s what they were talking about when they said that cortisol imbalances can affect the way we feel.”
“It is not in your head at all, it is in your body, it is in your physiology. Stress physiology is different but 90% of all reasons why someone goes into the doctor’s office is because of stress.”
“You want your cortisol and adrenaline to get you out of danger, the problem is when we’re under constant stress throughout our days.”
“What are the activities that we can choose day-to-day that we know are going to help bring our cortisol back to more optimal levels? Let alone, having a better self-care routine.”
